1) Amy Allan's husband, Jimmy, reported the crime himself

As shown on Dateline: The Last Day, Amy's husband, Jimmy Allan, was the first person to make the 911 call, and he reportedly sounded very disturbed. The call was made around 9 p.m., right after Jimmy had gone down to the basement of their house to check on his wife.

According to Jimmy's first statement, Amy was discovered hanging from the ceiling, and the tool used was an extension cord. As Officer BJ Horn from Tecumseh Police arrived at the scene, he did not hear any noises from the house; instead, it was quiet all around, as per reports. Officer Horn further added,

"It wasn’t until I yelled a couple of times, you know, ‘Police, police,’ that I heard somebody,

Later, Jimmy's scream was heard from the basement, where he was discovered performing CPR on his wife. That evening earlier, the couple had been caught on CCTV cameras as they were drinking beer at a nearby pub. As investigators continued their work, Jimmy divulged further information to the police, saying they fought earlier. In a turn of events, Jimmy was left surprised and kind of in shock when the paramedics discovered that Amy was still alive. Dateline: The Last Day further reveals that Jimmy was reportedly not in tears in his display of emotional drama. He was heard by witnesses reacting strangely as he said,

"Dude, what in the f---ing hell?

The sense of shock in his words later raised doubts. As the investigating officers further questioned Jimmy, he said that he and Amy had dropped off their daughter at a school game, after which they went to a local pub. There, the couple had a heated argument over Jimmy's plans to go someplace else than Michigan.

According to Jimmy's statement, Amy did not want to move. She got upset and angry, left the bar, and walked home. Jimmy had gone back in his car. Once they reached home, Jimmy watched TV while his wife remained in the basement, reports. He had supposedly tried talking to her, but she lashed out and swore at him.

Later that evening, when Jimmy went to check on Ammy once again, he saw her hanging with a cord around her neck. He reportedly tried to knock her back to senses by performing CPR on her, but nothing worked.

(3) Amy was stuck in an abusive relationship with her husband

Dateline: The Last Day revealed more surprising information as further details of the Amy Allan case were explored. The show takes us back to Amy Allan's past, even before Jimmy was in the scene. When Amy was in her eighth grade, she went through a teenage pregnancy, and the child was born—quite a lot for a 13-year-old, as her family members mentioned in their statements.

However, later in her life, she met Jimmy, who was very supportive of the entire situation. The two fell in love and had their first child when Amy was 19. Jimmy helped her raise the two children. But Amy's mother, Jeane Winchester, had reported about a toxic and abusive side of Jimmy, who always kept his wife under his control.

"It was fairly significant amount of communication between them and we also learned that they had met up a couple of times,

Amy Allan was a different individual while interacting with George, who had reportedly helped to bring out her positive side. The investigating officers initially deduced that the confrontation between Jimmy and Amy might be related to the former discovering his wife's affair.

But while being questioned, Jimmy's reaction to the revelation seemed like a shock—as if he had no prior idea about his wife's involvement with another guy. He added that Amy would never do that to him, as per Dateline: The Last Day reports.

According to reports, the physical evidence at the scene did not make sense. As mentioned in Jimmy's statements, he found Amy hanging from the ceiling, but the authorities found it too low for a person to be hung.

A dummy test performed later confirmed that it was not possible for Amy to hang herself from a ceiling that low without her feet touching the floor.
